Prometheus
In Greek mythology, sometimes referred to as the God of Fire. Prometheus is best known for defying the Olympian gods by stealing fire from them and giving it to humanity in the form of technology, knowledge, and more generally, civilization.
His punishment was, Zeus boung him to a rock and an eagly )(Zeus' symbol), the eagle would eat his liver (in ancient Greece, the liver was thought to be the seat of human emotions) and when done a new liver would go back and the unending pain through eternity.
He is eventually freed by Hracels (Greek version of Hercules). Such a tradgic punishment, but has a good ending.
