Attack in the Air

Journal Entry

It has been 2 weeks since we’ve left Fagimburg. We made two stops, one at Glyndelac, and the other at Ballinicor, in order to get more information on the pirate attack and to stock up munitions and supplies. After that, we set our course to the west. The winds were fair towards the beginning, but now their speeds are ever-increasing. In fact, strong gusts have been a threat as of recent. They pull at the ship’s sails, occasionally steer us off course, and have even caught us off guard by blowing us across the deck. Several of the crew have employed safety tethers as a result. Additionally, the clouds are heavy, greatly hindering our visibility. Nevertheless, we press onward, and Johannes, a master navigator, keeps us steady and on course.

Journal Entry

We are now 17 days into the expedition.

At daybreak, Freidman spotted the first glimpse of the Onshū pirate ship. Excitement, as well as apprehension, are building. Preparations for our attack are now fully underway. The cannons and muskets have been loaded. Extra munitions are brought to the deck and secured. The winds are still a challenge... one crew member even suggested we retreat due to the winds. He was quickly silenced by others, but his comment still lingers in my mind... Even Johannes quipped that the winds were the roughest he’s ever sailed in.

In the evening, the dreaded flag of the Onshū pirates could clearly be seen through the telescope. I still shudder at the sight of it... as it brings back horrid memories...

We have adjusted our pace so as to catch them in the morning. My crew and I have made our petitions. We only pray our attack goes well... Tomorrow, if the winds permit, we shall engage. If all goes well, you shall hear from me again.

The sun barely pierced through the thick clouds when BOOM!! the first cannonball careened through the skies with a loud crack. Gunpowder and shouts quickly followed suit, and filled the early morning air. Artagnan and his crew used the cover of night to gain upon the Onshū pirates. Adjusting their altitude, they aimed to be 1000 or so meters above the pirate ship by daybreak. The Onshū pirate crew, however, were not altogether unprepared. They themselves had adjusted their altitude, and at the first glimpse of light, Artagnan realized the pirate ship was a mere 200 meters below.

Johannes steered the ship down towards the pirates as Firmin lit the first cannon. Artagnan hoped to rush past the Onshū while blasting a hole in the side of the pirate ship. However, as Artagnan and his crew began their downward sweep, the pirates surprised Artagnan by adjusted their ship upwards to meet the oncoming attack — with loaded and lit cannons as well...

Greetings all! The next installment of the journey of my IoA character, Artagnan, is finally here! I hope you enjoyed the little journal excerpts and story.

Fun fact: the Onshū pirate ship has been built for over a year, and Artagnan's ship is a redo of the ship in this build. Both ships were at BrickWorld Chicago this year.
