What Lurks Beneath The Mists...
On the world of Aura, miles below civilization, there lies The Mists. Lying windless above the waters, it is a place of terror. Few venture there - for even fewer return. Of those that do, fables of monsters and creatures are on their lips. Commonly, those that survive the treacherous journeys never return.
However, there are a few, namely, the Piscators (also known as Anglers). Fish, and seafood in general, are rare delicacies in the Isles. Therefore, these individuals are usually out for a quick payload.
As you descend into The Mists, visibility becomes low. One can see only a hundred or so feet around them. Rocks appear here and there, and navigation is difficult. Dwelling half-a-mile above The Sea, man-sized creatures known as Wyverns make their hives. Only once past these creatures do Piscators make it to the fishing grounds. Only in select spots can these men gather food - The Mists are silent and stagnant, without a gust or a fresh breeze of air, save a few "paths." Traps from previous parties are searched as quickly as possible, for linger too long, and you are faced with the great monsters of the deep. Some talk of enormous, worm-like creatures that lunge up from below. Others of large, tentacle and teeth-filled masses. Whatever the tale, be it true or false, one thing is certain: Those who venture there are either uncommonly brave or incredibly foolish, and those who do return from a voyage rarely ever descend again.
Greetings all! This is my final entry for the Summer Joust. As you can probably guess, this is for the Intrepid Expedition Category. Inspired by Jonas Kramm's Monstrous Maris and Micah's Tan'thu , I've wanted to do some sort of creature rising from the sea. I was very pleased with how this turned out, and I like the texture the inverted plates give to the tentacles. Unfortunately, the tentacles are relatively fragile, since there is no way to stick a flex tube through them. Hope you enjoyed the info relating to The Isles of Aura!
