England's Lost History
Early Anglo Saxon Sceat 695-710 AD (series E VICO variety 3)
Early Anglo-Saxon, continental series, c. 695/700-710/5, series E, 'Ashton Rowant' phase, porcupine VICO variety 3. Degenerate diademed head right, resembling porcupine. Reverse: Standard inscribed VICO.
I have had this coin recorded as EMC 2017.b0311. This is an excellent example of Series E VICO variety 3.
The VICO probably indicates that this coinage was produced in a Vicus (trading settlement), such as Dorestad or Domburg in the Netherlands.
