England's Lost History
Bronze age Ring 1500BC-100AD
The use of this ring is difficult to interpret. It is difficult to interpret it as a harness fitting as the internal dimensions is rather narrow and the lentoid shape would make it awkward to fit anything substantial. It could (more likely in my opinion) have a decorative use in either harness or similar functional fitting possibly associated with personal dress. No clear parallels have been found for this artefact –as the use of this type of ring is common in most prehistoric and historic periods; this example has been dated solely on the design, weight of the metal and age of the patina.
