That Wind

The morning after the Friday snowstorm, I found the clouds blowing out in spite of the overly pessimistic cloud forecast. Somehow there were some trains running too and I decided to head for my favorite spot in Geneva for an impending UP eastbound. Nothing like -5F with a 20 mph wind to the face on an overpass.

The "commotion" on the left is for the preparation of adding the third main through here (supposed to be done this year), and in particular, a reinforced and extended fill, and getting across the Fox River. When the C&NW built the bridge back in 1917, it seems they had the piers wide enough for three or even four tracks. However, I believe UP is adding additional piers of their own for the triple-tracking.

A five-pack that did some drift busting out west sails past with a Z train for Global II. Not long after getting past JB Tower they would go into emergency after losing their air.
