William Galloway practised in Wigtownshire. He was born c.1831 or 1832, the son of William Galloway who was a divinity student in Edinburgh when he died in 1854 and his wife Jane Thompson. He practised from 87 George Street, Whithorn and is described as both an architect and antiquary. He provided plans for MacGibbon and Ross for ten of the castles and churches which they describe in 'The Castellated and Domestic Architecture of Scotland' and 'The Ecclesiastical Architecture of Scotland' (Barr Castle, Lochwinnoch, Sorbie Castle, Wigtownshire, Carscreuch, near Glenluce, Portpatrick Church, Wigtownshire, Castle Stewart, Penninghame, Castle Wigg, Wigtownshire, Garlies, Wigtownshire, Killasser Castle, Ardwell, Myrton Castle, Wigtownshire and Isle of Whithorn Castle, Wigtownshire). In 1871 he published some lithographs of St Magnus, Orkney in the Transactions of the Architectural Institute of Scotland...He died on 11 September 1897 aged sixty-five (Wigtown Free Press) or sixty-seven (death certificate). He left moveable estate of £850 8s 7d with an eke of £175 5s 11d.
