Romanian part - Citizens’ Corner debate on immigrants and refugees, a huge challenge for the EU

Euranet PImages of barbed wire fencing between Hungary and its neighbours, migrants storming the Eurotunnel - it’s all become familiar, so quickly, and with a shocking interpretation of EU human rights standards by some states. Overwhelmed, politically and emotionally, Europe’s political leadership is struggling to find an effective response to the hundreds of thousands of people fleeing North Africa and the Middle East.

So what can really be done by the EU institutions (Commission, Parliament, specialized agencies) and by the member states with the more than one million immigrants and refugees who have already arrived this year in EU states?

Euranet Plus and Radio România, public service, the Romanian Euranet Plus member, discussed the crisis in a bilingual debate moderated by journalist Luoana Plesea of Radio România (in Romanian) and Brian Maguire of the Euranet Plus News Agency in Brussels (in English). Students from the campus radio stations affiliated to Euranet Plus from Romania (UBB Radio, Cluj-Napoca) and Spain (Universidade de Vigo) also joined the debate.
