Citizens’ Corner debate on freedom of movement in the EU
In theory, citizens of the European Union are allowed to move to, live in, and in certain circumstances access the welfare system of any EU country to which they relocate. What are the legal and the moral limits of this freedom? Why is freedom of movement important in an open society? What impact would restricted freedom of movement have in the European Union?
In January of this year a group of MEPs issued a Joint Motion for a Resolution on respect for the fundamental right of free movement in the EU. What is the possible impact?
On Tuesday, April 1, the radio network Euranet Plus staged a debate on all of these questions and more at the European Parliament in Brussels. The debate, the latest in the “Citizens’Corner” series, was produced in partnership with Bulgarian National Radio, a member of the Euranet Plus network, and was hosted by BNR’s anchorman and foreign policy reporter Nikola Miladinov.
