All I want for Christmas is a new tripod...
There are so many things to see in New York and even more ways to photograph it so it’s difficult to choose just one....
My recent trips to the city have been very abrupt and I generally spend more time in the car than anywhere else. Doing my research beforehand is a must if I want to get good shots and doing so netted this location. With that and of course an understanding wife, I was able to cut my visit with the in-laws short and venture out to Brooklyn for some skyline shots. I had mapped and selected Columbia Heights, which is situated just South of the Brooklyn Bridge and right on the East River....and might I add an absolutely adorable town. Anyway, I made my way to the walkway situated above the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and to my dismay my tripod was too small to reach over the fence that guards the overlook.
I really love my tripod, a Gitzo GT0531. It’s super compact, incredibly lightweight, and quick to setup but this is not the first time that the height extension was an issue.
Anyway, I did the best that I could with the challenge but I’m certainly now in the market for a larger tripod after this adventure.
I hope that I was good this year so that Santa (my wife) hears my cries and delivers me a bigger tripod. I'll certainly be dropping a lot of hints over the next few weeks......
