619 New York Avenue, St. Cloud, Florida

Large two storey simplified Prairie Style house with large one storey addition to the left. Prairie forms with some Florida touches. "The exterior recognizes the influence of the prairie, is firmly and broadly associated with the site, and makes a feature of its quiet level," Wright wrote in the February 1901 "Ladies Home Journal" article that accompanied the first nationwide publication of "A Home in a Prairie Town" introducing this design to the American public. "The low terraces and broad eaves are designed to accentuate that quiet level and complete the harmonious relationship."

Typical of Prairie Style are the hip roof forms and turning the floor plan so that the short sides face the street. The front porch in a more refined Prairie Style house would have a hip roof as well (or both roofs would be flat, someting that would have worked in Florida much better than do the originals in the Chicago suburbs with all that snow). The horizontal porch railing/wall is also a nice Prairie Style touch. You can see where the front porch gable roof end was severed, probably when the awkward carport was added.

If the windows were continuous on the second floor, and if the eave soffit were enclosed, the look would be more obviously Prairie. Even so, it is worth comparing with the Abert Muther House of (1912) designed by Isabel Robert's friend, co-worker, neighbor and sometime boss William E. Drummond.

Also, for comparison purposes see the Barbara Erwin House of 1922, by John Van Bergen (who worked with Isabel Roberts in the Oak Park Studio of Frank Lloyd Wright):

For further comparison, best of all might be a look at the K. C. DeRhodes House in South Bend, Indiana, a Frank Lloyd Wright Oak Park Studio Prairie House designed by Isabel Roberts for her friend Laura Caskey Bowsher DeRhodes:
