Number of Target Stores by State

This is a proportional symbol map showing the number of Target stores in the United States by state. This map was also created in Illustrator and it was quite time consuming. I found my data on the Target website. I randomly chose a size for my largest circle or my base circle. Once I had that size I used the square root method to find what percentage of the large circle all the other circles needed to be. I used Microsoft Excel to find the percentages. I used black for the states with white borders so that my target symbols would stand out better. I also increased the transparency of the symbols so that it was easy to tell what state the circle was over.
