Point Wilson Lighthouse, Seattle Washington
Point Wilson is an active lighthouse located in the Fort Worden State park and marks the entrance into Puget Sound. It is the turning point from the Strait of Juan de Fuca into the Admiralty Inlet. The lighthouse is automated and is currently in use today.
The current station was built in 1914 and built in an octagon shape to reduce the wind pressure on the structure with a height of 51 feet. The current structure replaced original Point Wilson light that was built in 1879 as a companion to the Admiralty Head Light built in 1861 and demolished in 1928. The Admiralty Head Light was a wooden structure with a height of 30 feet.
Point Wilson Lighthouse has seen a few tragedies which included the SS Governor that sank in 1921 with 240 passengers aboard when it collided with another ship. Through heroic efforts most of the passengers were saved. Ghost hunters insist that Point Wilson Lighthouse is haunted.
