Paradise Found
So I am bringing you on a zig zaggy tour around Bali with me. This shot was taken 24 hours before I arrived at The Last Resort and reading through it you may understand even more why I felt the way I did when I was there.
Prior to leaving Australia - I did a lot of research on surfing beaches in Indonesia and came across this place called Keramas which was on the east side of the island away from everything...yes, it was a Tick. I also found that there was a place recently opened about a year ago - called Komune - which was situated on the beach overlooking the surf break which was right in front of Komune - Tick and Tick again. I then read that this was a great spot for sunrise....tick again ...as most of the other places I was visiting in Bali face the sunset. I THEN became super organised just before I left and started researching the 14 day surf forecast for Bali and found that on a particular day whilst I was in Bali on the 26th there was going to be HUGE surf at Keramis....huge tick. I booked a room for that very night/day on the 26th/27th and left busy Ubud and became more and more relaxed on the drive there as there was less and less traffic and tourists on the way there.
I arrive to this supercool place in the middle of nowhere which had this pool on the grass right on the beach, all the food was organic and grown in their own garden, my very cool room had a huge oversized shot of surf and waves over the bed....it was just tick after tick after tick on all the things that I like and felt like I had landed in a Bali from 50 years ago.
I went to bed, set the alarm, up 45 minutes before the sunrise - just a minute walk to get on the beach. The sand there is jet black and is so dark and my toes felt like they had landed on a bed of black velvet , so soft , so beautiful. I wait in the dark for the magic of the pre-sunrise and the big surf....and I wait, and I wait...and nothing was happening....just grey skies and flatish seas and the sun rose behind the clouds and still grey.
I think oh well....best laid plans and all of that....I gave it the best shot. I walk along the beach and it even starts raining , so I walk up the stairs of this surf look out place and plonk myself down and put down my camera bag and then look up and just then the sun burst through the clouds in the most beautiful colours, the surf started rising and I looked down the beach with that tall palm in the distance and for the next 25 minutes, with the colours changing so beautifully, it was pure magic , I took shot after shot as the light changed in those 25 minutes and each one magic ...and thought Yes....I had absolutely found Paradise .
And Isn't it so so so cool to know my fine flickr friends that sometimes when you go looking for Paradise and you put a lot of effort in to it , you can actually find it :)
