The New World
There is something about this shot that affects me. I noticed her walking along the shoreline with a far away look on her face with the evening sun on it as she passed , with the baby looking out to the sea and then the juxtaposition of the surfer looking out to sea also and the tallship . I have left it sitting in the archives for a bit however I just keep coming back to it .
The capture of this moment felt a bit like a David Lynch movie and also felt a bit like a staged scene for a project I had been given at art school on modern Australia with street photography meets landscape meets beach scene (never been - just sayin' thats what it felt like ;)).
The title was easy for me tonight as firstly I am a HUGE Terence Malick fan and also, for me at least, it fits the scene - on the shores of Australia - which was 'settled'(contentious word right ?) by white Europeans in tall ships in the 18th century who were 'discovering' what they believed to be a 'new world'.
Yes, this shot evokes a lot of thoughts for me on what a New World is...
