Camargue cattle

The Camargue cattle breed is an ancient breed of cattle indigenous to the marshlands of the Camargue region in southern France. The cattle are raised in semi-wild conditions in free-roaming herds, or manades, managed by gardians, or "Camargue cowboys". The bulls are reared for bullfighting and for festivals in the local towns and cities. Animals that are not suitable for either the bull ring or breeding are sold for human consumption under the AOC title of "Taureau de Camargue"
