As the armored axeman saw his companions fall to the blades of the Dannegard, he started to flee, but was hurled backwards by the arrow of the remaining archer, and fell dead. As the soldiers and knights gathered themselves and tended to their wounded, Sir Charles cried, "look! The carriage!" With dread, they realized the attack was a distraction, as the carriage door was open, and the chest of riches was gone."Back to the castle! Quickly! We must retrieve the King's gold!"
