Guarded caravan ambush-part 2

Suddenly the low "Muunng" of a longbow interrupted the jingle of chain mail and the clatter of cart and hooves. With a "Smack!" an arrow sprouted from the tunic of one of the archers, who dropped to the ground. Heads turned to the top of a small hill, where a group of dastardly outlaws shouted and drew weapons. The cart driver urged his horse forward as the knights and soldiers turned to meet the attack. Another arrow sliced the the air and embedded itself into the ground next to the frantic cart-horse as its sender picked up a massive battle-axe and brought it crashing down on Sir Charles, who was knocked out of the saddle and toppled to the ground. Luckily, it was the flat of the blade that hit him, and his arm was till with him. Mean while, a grey-clad swordsman leaped from the hill to meet the soldiers, and another ruffian in a studded leather tunic advanced, spear lowered.
