Hangende aardbeien in een kas - Strawberries hanging in a Dutch greenhouse

On April 1, 2012 was the theme "Come in the greenhouse", a possibility to look around in many greenhouses with different cultivations. Near the village of Made (North-Brabant, Netherlands) large complexes of greenhouses are heated with "waste heat" generated in Essent's Amer Power Station in the nearby village of Geertruidenberg. The hot water is transported to the greenhouses through thick underground tubes.

In a greenhouse the cultivation of hanging strawberry plants is favorable to the back strain of the pickers. They can now do the picking in a sitting or standing position instead of kneeling and crawling on the ground.
