No ICE Philly sends a message to ICE: We don’t want you here!
Symbolically condemning the ICE building and demanding ICE leave Philly
A newly formed coalition of Philadelphia residents called No ICE Philly went to ICE headquarters, acting as city building inspectors, and condemned ICE and the building it inhabits.
Philadelphia, PA (September 16th)--On Tuesday September 16th at 3:30 PM, members of No ICE Philly converged on the Philly Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office at 114 No. 8th St. to send a clear message to ICE: “Philly doesn’t want you here!” People acting as building inspectors symbolically condemned the building to express that ICE is hazardous for human beings and has no place in the city.
A crowd of 50 people, singing “No one likes us, we don’t care,” temporarily blocked the garage doors used by ICE when conducting raids and transporting people to detention centers. Carrying signs reading “ICE Raids Violate Philly Values” the crowd took turns sharing why they condemn ICE. No ICE members attached a large “Structure Condemned” notice to the ICE garage doors. Organizers promised to return again.
Philadelphians, like people all over the country, are appalled at the Trump administration’s authoritarian tactics, including racial profiling and violent raids by masked immigration officials. ICE agents have weaponized Philadelphia courts by kidnapping people as they leave immigration check-ins or other required appearances. Agents have raided worksites, targeting hardworking community members trying to provide for themselves and their families. These raids terrorize families and harm all of the many communities who call Philadelphia home. And now, the Supreme Court of the United States has greenlit the racial profiling of individuals based on skin color and language, further entrenching racism as a tool of control and domination. We say ICE is dangerous to human life and is not welcome in Philadelphia.
