RFP0764

On Oct. 31, 1987, Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac agent Tommy Boyd walks back to the station after handing up paperwork to an unidentified trainman climbing back up on GP40 No. 124. The train is local freight No. 502, the "Acca Local," exercising trackage rights over CSX to reach Bear Island Paper Co. located several miles to the east. When I went to work for the RF&P in 1973, my first job was 12-8 AY operator, working in the office with Tommy, who was working the 12-8 train dispatcher position. They were some fun times and I learned a lot from him. Several years later, when the agent's position at Doswell came open, Tommy decided to call it quits for train dispatching at night for a daylight agent's job with weekends off. It was a wise decision. Over the years Tommy welcomed railfans into the station and was always helpful with information.
