Laocoon, the son of Acoetes, is a figure in Greek and Roman mythology and the Epic Cycle. He was a Trojan priest who warned the Trojans not to let the Greeks' wooden horse into the city and was about to throw his spear into the horse's belly to expose the Greeks hidden therein. He was then attacked, with his two sons, by giant serpents sent by the gods, which made the Trojans believe that he was wrong. The story of Laocoon has been the subject of numerous artists, both in ancient and in more contemporary times.

Laokoon var en trojansk präst i grekisk mytologi, bror till Anchises.
Vid slaget om staden Troja gömde sig grekiska soldater i en stor trähäst. Laokoon var den som varnade trojanerna för att föra in trähästen i staden, och var på väg att kasta sitt spjut mot hästens buk och därigenom avslöja de där gömda grekerna. Han och hans söner kvävdes till döds av två från Tenedos framsimmande jätteormar som trängde upp ur havet, vilket trojanerna tolkade som ett tecken på att han hade fel. Laokoons saga skildrades bland annat av Vergilius i Aeneiden.
