Our hotel in Torremolinos, Spain in 1972

We had bought an extremely cheap vacation, 295 SEK for the return flight from Stockholm plus two weeks in this hotel, including two meals a day.

But we only stayed in the hotel the first and the last night. Instead, we rented a car and toured the entire peninsula, up through Spain and Andorra, into France, back to the Basque country in Spain, down through Portugal, then back to Torremolinos via Granada with the magnificent Alhambra.

In those days, almost all cars in Spain were SEAT, built in Spain on license from FIAT. Import of cars was restricted, or at least very expensive. So we rented a SEAT 124.

The black taxis in the picture are SEAT 1500. Those with single headlights were made before 1969, the ones with double headlights were from 1969-1972. This is the SEAT luxury line of the time. Many were equipped with diesel engines from Mercedes Benz or Perkins. It's said that they took 50 s to reach 100 km/h.
