1000-year old dragon tree (Dracaena draco), Tenerife, Spain

This magnificent dragon tree in Icod de los Vinos in Tenerife is not really a tree at all. According to Wikipedia, it is related to the asparagus family. Neither is it a thousand years old. Since it is a monocotyledon, there are no year rings to count, but an estimate made in 1975 indicates that this specimen is 250-375 years old. It is the largest one on the island and is used as a symbol of Tenerife.
