Skansen opened in 1891. The vision of Its founder Artur Hazelius was to preserve for posterity an image of Sweden through the centuries. There are now 140 buildings from all over the country, the oldest dating from the 14th century.
Stenstugan (the stone cottage) was built at Skansen in 1891, and was based on similar houses in the west of Blekinge province. It shows how simple people could be forced to live in the 19th century. It has a single room.
