Sailing with S/S Maria to Göta Kanal, Sweden

Göta kanal is one of Sweden's most famous tourist attractions. Since 1832, it runs for 190.5 km from the Baltic Sea to lake Vänern, through 58 locks with a total height of 91.8 m. To continue to the North Sea, you first go through the Trollhätte kanal, which also has a number of locks, and then down Göta Älv (a river).

This building, by the Brådtom lock, is a popular photo motive, not least because of its name. "Brådtom" (with modern spelling "bråttom") means "in a hurry". Read more about Göta kanal in Wikipedia here: [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6ta_Canal].
