Gustav Vasa kyrka, Stockholm

This church on Norrmalm in Stockholm was built in 1901-1906, and was consecrated on June 10th, 1906.

Architect: Age Lindegren

The magnificent altar piece was originally made by Burchardt Precht in 1725–1731 for the Uppsala Cathedral, the seat of the Swedish Archbishop, but taken down when the Cathedral was rebuilt in the 19th century. After having been in a museum for a number of years, it was bought cheaply by the Gustav Vasa parish. I've been told that it is now sorely missed in Uppsala.
