A Love Story

We were watching this drake on/off during the day and noticed some odd behavior. When the other ducks took to the air or dove to fish, he and his lady-friend stayed put. Then he surfed a large wave and landed on this rock (his friend flew in). I've been photographing birds for a long time and never saw this species on a rock. When he turned his back to preen, I noticed his left wing was hanging down, probably broken, which explains why he can't fly or dive. She stayed by his side in the sea and on land.
