The Swallow-tailed Kite is common in Florida and unusual in the rest of the Gulf states to Texas and certainly rare here in southeastern PA. A beautiful and graceful bird, they eat primarily large insects and small vertebrates. As with many birds, their numbers are declining due mainly to habitat loss and pesticide use.

Indignation grips me because of the wicked,

who have forsaken your law.

Your decrees are the theme of my song

wherever I lodge.

In the night, Lord, I remember your name,

that I may keep your law.

This has been my practice:

I obey your precepts.

Psalm 119:43-56
