AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER AND ONE DAY OLD CHICK 1301-041

Two chicks hatched the day before and we were fortunate to watch their antics up close. Mom (or dad) was still sitting on one egg. When we went back 2 weeks later, there were the two chick much larger and very active. Two chicks are typical of American Oystercatchers, so the egg did not hatch, was abandoned so the adults could care for the other two, or the third chick didn't survive.
