Delayed gratification

This Eastern Kingbird struggles to subdue a cicada while its fledgling waits patiently, mouth agape. The insect broke free and started to fly away a number of times, but was recaptured.

 

From a distance I originally thought it was a big dragonfly, but on viewing the photos I realized it was instead a very uncooperative cicada.
