TM Travel 1175

Oh look, we’re back to Omnidekkas. TM Travel 1175 is seen in Baslow on 26.10.24

The N94UD Omnidekka has served Wellglade well, with numerous second hand examples bought for TM Travel and Notts & Derby. However it looks like they’re on the way out now, with TM quietly retiring theirs to the point I think there’s only one left (or possibly none at all). Meanwhile it looks like Notts & Derby are also thinking of retiring their N94UDs in the near/mid future.

The TM Travel double deck fleet, as I initially remember it in the early 2010s, was dominated by various Olympians with the majority carrying some incarnation of the Alexander R type body. By the middle of the decade these were all swept away and at that time they didn’t seem to have any standard decker; in fact the only deckers I can at all remember from around the time was an East Lancs Lowlander and a B7L Nordic. Then a few years later the single door converted 06 plate Omnidekkas arrived in their numbers and took the mantle of standard double decker at TM Travel.

To comply with the Sheffield Clean Air Zone TM’s double deck fleet has been renewed again over the past few years, with ex-Lothian Enviro 400Hs converted to straight diesel. Allegedly they are poor performers and their use on the 218 discouraged, and although TM Travel have bought an ex-Arriva E400 it rarely seems to be roadworthy. In light of this, I have no idea what they are using to fulfil the requirement of a decent, reliable decker, because their attempts to fit E400s into the role don’t appear to be working well.

Maybe they should’ve gone for the boring option and chosen Lothian B9TLs like everyone else, or perhaps they’re eyeing up NCT’s final six N230 Omnidekkas (which are Euro 6).
