Diverted Stagecoach Buses
Despite Wigford Way being heavily clogged with traffic now Pelham Bridge is shut, one of the lanes is still barriered off. It was done because of Covid some time during one of the earlier lockdowns, but that's pretty much all over now so what's stopping them reopening it? Here is 36711 and three other Stagecoach buses, all caught in a long line of traffic which will crawl around to the Carholme Road junction, taking thirty minutes or more to travel a distance just shy of a kilometre.
The number of cars that should actually be taking this route is debatable, as the diversion around the bridge closure is supposed to be the Eastern Bypass, which is situated on the very edge of the city and has recently opened in full, but it would appear every man and his dog would rather use the diversion meant for city centre traffic only. The bypass, from what I've heard, is experiencing normal levels of traffic while over in the city centre absolutely nothing moves. Reasonably, nobody with a destination more than a kilometre from Pelham Bridge itself should be driving through the city diversion, because the A46 and Eastern Bypass hug the city's outskirts like a ring road, meaning wherever in the city you're headed it should be a case of going round, not through.
With all the cars piling into the city diversion that aren't meant to be there, it's having a knock-on effect for everything that should be there; couriers, buses, refuse lorries and all! It doesn't help that the one-way street down Brayford Wharf East is also shut - supposedly for Covid reasons - yet much like the lane here, why hasn't it been reopened rather than forcing three roads worth of traffic along one diversion?
Also, here's another thing; Pelham Bridge is four lanes wide, so why is it necessary to shut all four lanes for the whole ten weeks? Surely some of the work can be done with it half open?
