The Blue Spotted Wood Lizard is proof that scientists are creative and imaginative folk. I don’t see any blue spots. “Iridescent green lizard” I could understand. “South American Dragon” ...also understandable. “Slightly Blue Tinged Lizard If You Look Carefully”... would be accurate and entertaining. The western Amazon jungle, near the foothills of the Andes is crawling with little green dragons, but this has only recently come to light. Eight of the 15 currently known species in this genus were discovered this century. We must continue funding our creative and imaginative scientists so that they can continue discovering nature’s incredible diversity.
