931166 (8885) Argyrogramma verruca - Norfolk County, Ontario

Golden Looper Moth. Photographed at Long Point, Norfolk County, Ontario on 22 October 2017. This was the star moth of the night and one I've wanted to see for a very long time. A southern moth, this species is extremely rare in Ontario and was not one I seriously expected to see. Riotte (1992) mentions it has occurred in Welland (Niagara Falls), but I can find no other recent records. It was an exciting moment when this individual was found resting on the tripod leg that supported the MV bulb! It was a remarkable evening where most of the moths that were attracted to either the light or sugar were immigrant species - in good numbers too...
