Happy Holidays!

Happy St. Nicholas Day!

Today, December 19, in Ukraine, celebrate St. Nicholas Day.

St. Nicholas Day has religious roots and traditions of celebration.

Orthodox celebrate St. Nicholas, known for many miracles. He is called the imitator of the holy life of Christ and the bearer of virtue.

Catholics honor the memory of St. Nikolay annually on December 6 as the patron saint of travelers and children.

In Europe, Christmas holidays begin precisely from the day of St. Nicholas.

In the tenth century, in the Cologne Cathedral, on the day of Nicholas's memory, sweets began to be given to students of the parish school, and later in Germany in the houses began to hang shoes or socks in order, that St. Nicholas put gifts there for the children. These traditions quickly spread throughout Europe.

Gifts are received on this day only obedient children, and naughty wait for rods. But in anticipation of the holiday, the children try not to be naughty and no one remains without gifts from St. Nicholas.
