Calrailfans Truckee, 16 August 2014
Our August 2014 Calrailfans meet was in Truckee, California on Saturday, 16 August 2014. UP and Amtrak provided us with some variety as the eastbound CZ had a new Siemens electric loco being deadheaded east for service between Boston, New York, Harrisburg and Washington, and UP was running an Operation Lifesaver Special between Sparks, Nevada (east Reno) and Truckee.
I got a ride with my friend Paul and he stopped at Alta to check out ATCS train tracking equipment and an eastbound Z train caught up to us there. After arriving in Truckee, we went to Glenshire, a few miles to the east and photographed our stack train, and then the westbound Zephyr, a westbound stack train and finally the OLS special.
We went back to Truckee and got the OLS train again. Paul brought his quadcopter and flew that to get some photos. A westbound stack train came though, then the eastbound Zephyr met the OLS train as it was leaving. The OLS train reversed and headed back to Reno, and then it was time for us to get going and we departed for home.
Great seeing everyone who was there, and thanks to Paul for the ride!
