BART, Oakland Coliseum
San Francisoc and Oakland, 1 Feb 2019
Daughter Caroline lives in Hawaii. Her job sent her to Rome for some training, via economy airlines, where possible, and this resulted in her flying in San Francisco one night around 1 AM and flying out from Oakland at 5 pm the same day.
After a night at a hotel in Milbrae, we caught BART to Powell Street, had lunch at a Japanese restaurant on Powell Street, partway up Nob Hill, where we could watch cable cars out the window as we ate our bento boxes. After lunch, Caroline did some shopping, getting a pair of Doc Martens boots, while I shot cable cars and PCCs. I recommend Union Square and the Powell and Market area for the railfan who is with a woman who wants to go shopping. The railfan will be happy, the woman will be happy and the two of you won't drive each other nuts.
Caroline wanted to get to Oakland airport in plenty of time to get checked in, so soon we were back on BART heading for the Oakland Coliseum station and the relatively new shuttle to Oakland airport. I hadn't realized the shuttle is a modern cable car, a bit different than the ones on Powell Street, but still something of a descendant.
Caroline got checked in and we said goodbye. She through security to catch Norwegian Airline's flight to Barcelona, from where she would connect to Rome, me back to Coliseum station to get Capitol 538 back home to Sacramento. The train was a bit late, but I was able to connect to light rail to my local station and get home from there.
