Diptera> Syrphidae> Eristalini> (Helophilus pendulus)
Indication of an ovipositor suggests this is a female. The eyes in the genus Helophilus are the same in both sexes, they do not join at the vertex. I have Walwyn to thank for the eyes information. I would also like to add that as far as I am aware there is no variation in the markings of this specie, but colour does vary, whether this is dimorphic I can not say.
