2019 2

2019 has been an interesting year to be a railfan. We've seen operational changes on class 1s, along with new and rebuilt engines, sending older units to retirement and scrap. Although we may not like it, 2019 has brought numerous major changes to the trains we know and love (or hate). Throughout the year, two trains have really sparked harsh realizations of the changes that have happened regarding trains, and this train is one of them. UP 6379, an AC4400CW in Southern Pacific paint, sits in Bridgeview on the IHB. If you know me, you probably know how much I love (note the sarcasm) the SP. It's right up there with other lovely names like Pennsylvania Railroad and Norfolk Southern, so to think I would chase an SP engine, for almost 6 hours on top of that, would be crazy, but there I was. Remembering the days of these guys being on almost every coal train, and on the 3rd straight day of catching this thing, I had a realization standing in the rain at midnight while shooting this, nothing is forever and everything will be rare someday. Do I like this engine? No. Am I glad I got soaked to the bone for it? Hell yes.
