Ohio - Toynbee Tiles

by scottamus

Linoleum artwork tiles sometimes found in the major intersections of large cities. Originally called Toynbee tiles since they would contain a cryptic saying referencing the name Toynbee. Later tiles would appear in a similar style with the phrase House Of Hades. The tiles are initially covered in tar and blend into the street mostly unnoticed. The messages and designs are later revealed as traffic and weather eventually wear away the tar. The origins of the original tiles are a source of mystery.
