Leaf placement 101

Coming back down from Chedoke Falls, Scott spotted this rock jutting out in the middle of a little cascade. Since there were lots of red leaves around, he added one and began shooting. It should have been a small red leaf, but hey, he's doing well for a beginner! The setting is a bit busy, however, because Chedoke Creek flows under two large boulders, making a slightly confusing backgound. I have tried at least a dozen crops. These are the two I like best. Any thoughts?
