Master-Corporal Gus Shave, from 91 CEF Gander, Newfoundland, gives a brief to his Afghan National Army students on the Afghan National Army heavy equipment course.
During the six-week course, Afghan National Army soldiers will learn how to operate heavy machinery necessary to carry out a variety of engineering tasks. Soldiers from Joint Task Force Afghanistan carry out a variety of mentoring and instruction tasks geared to increase the operation capability of the Afghan National Army.
Joint Task Force Afghanistan is providing support to Afghan security forces, enabling them to build and sustain a secure environment in which civilian leadership and government representatives will be able to â through district-level meeting and tribal shuras â implement governance.
Operation ATHENA is Canadaâs participation in the International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan. Focused on Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan since the fall of 2005, Op ATHENA has one over-arching objective: to leave Afghanistan to Afghans, in a country that is better governed, more peaceful and more secure.

Le Caporalchef Gus Shave, de la 91 EGC Gander (TerreNeuve), donne un exposé à ses stagiaires dans le cadre du cours dâéquipement lourd de lâarmée nationale afghane.
Durant ce cours de six semaines, des soldats de lâarmée nationale afghane apprennent à manÅuvrer de la machinerie lourde servant à exécuter diverses tâches de génie. Les soldats de la Force opérationnelle interarmées Afghanistan donnent des services de mentorat et dâinstruction afin dâaugmenter la capacité opérationnelle de lâarmée nationale afghane.
La Force opérationnelle interarmées en Afghanistan fournit un appui aux forces de sécurité afghanes pour les aider à établir et à maintenir un environnement sécuritaire afin que les dirigeants civils et les représentants gouvernementaux puissent tenir des réunions de district et des chouras tribales en vue dâétablir une structure de gouvernance.
Lâopération Athena constitue la participation du Canada à la Force internationale dâassistance à la sécurité (FIAS) en Afghanistan. Concentrée dans la province de Kandahar, dans le sud de lâAfghanistan, depuis lâautomne 2005, lâopération Athena poursuit un objectif essentiel : laisser lâAfghanistan aux Afghans et en faire un pays mieux gouverné, plus paisible et plus sûr.
