Mexico (City): 7 kilometers (track relocated around 1960)

 

Veracruz: 418 kilometers (parts remain)

 

Veracruz is at sea level. Mexico City is at almost 8000 feet. Former Ferrocarril Mexicano route had a long 4 1/2 % grade to go up the steep cliff from Maltrata to Esperanza to reach the central plateau. Replaced by a longer but less steep route.
