Among My Souvenirs - Alexandria Egypt - Montazah Palace - Dead Puppy / Blood Blisters
Attempted to visit the palace on my last day in Alexandria. Got on a streetcar heading in the right direction (east) but terminating before getting there. Walked towards the Mediterannean Sea and tried to buy a bottle of water. The store was so undercapitalized that the shelves were empty. Walked west along the beach back to the downtown area, past a street where vintage US made autos were being restored - spare parts were fabricated in adjacent blacksmith shops.
Arrived at the Roman Ruins just after closing time - knocked anyway. An old man opened the gate and offered to let me in for baksheesh after selling an official ticket. Got a more extensive personal tour than if it was officially open - including getting dragged up a small hill to see a dead puppy "New kelb (dog) broken".
Leaving the Roman Ruins, could see my hotel a few blocks away but was so exhausted, dehydrated, and hypoglycemic that I got thoroughly lost. After 2 or 3 hours of random wandering found the hotel again. Needed to do surgery for the tertiary blood blisters on my feet to be able to put the shoes on to go to dinner. Luckily the next day was a "travel day" with a train to Cairo followed by a flight to Luxor, where I immediately passed out face down on the bed in my room.
