Sopron railway station
During the Cold War, the railroad station of Sopron in Western Hungary was a place of vision for many people who wanted to leave the country. This was due to Sopron's geographical position, which divides the most eastern Austrian province of Burgenland into two halves - at least as far as rail connections are concerned. As a result, even in communist times, trains to and from Austria regularly arrived and departed here. However, the security forces made sure that the signals in direction of Austria were always set to "red" for all refugees.
