Het Vissersbastion (Halászbástya) is een bekend bouwwerk in Boedapest. Het bevindt zich aan de rivierzijde van de Burchtheuvel, District I, en verrees tussen 1895 en 1901

 

Het bouwwerk biedt uitzicht over de Donau, op de stadsdelen van Pest met het opvallende parlementsgebouw

 

Over de juiste oorsprong van de naam bestaat geen zekerheid. Waarschijnlijk komt de naam van de vissers die beneden in de Waterstad (Viziváros) woonden en hier hun vismarkt hielden. Het kan ook zijn dat de naam voortkomt uit het feit dat dit deel van de burchtmuur van oudsher werd verdedigd door de vissers van Buda. Het is geen vesting (bastion) maar een terras

The Fishermen's Bastion (Halászbástya) is a famous building in Budapest. It is located on the river side of Burchtheuvel, District I, and rose between 1895 and 1901

 

The structure offers a view of the Danube, the districts of Pest with the striking parliament building

 

There is no certainty about the correct origin of the name. Probably comes the name of the fishermen who lived downstairs in the Water City (Viziváros) and held their fish market here. It may also be that the name stems from the fact that this part of the castle wall was traditionally defended by the fishermen of Buda. It is not a fortress (bastion) but a terrace
