De Japanse bottelroos of rimpelroos is ook bekend onder de Latijnse naam Rosa rugosa. Het is een wilde rozensoort die van nature in Nederland voorkomt. Vooral in de duinen vind je deze roze rozen regelmatig, aangezien deze inheemse planten goed tegen zeewind kunnen en graag met hun wortels in het zand staan. De Rosa rugosa is erg mooi als losse struik, maar je kunt er ook prachtig een rozenhaag van maken.
Voordelen en nadelen van de Rosa rugosa
+ Fraaie roze rozen in het voorjaar & rozenbottels na de bloeiperiode
+ Uitstekend geschikt voor het weren van honden, katten en andere ongenode gasten
+ Groeit goed aan zee, op zandige gronden of op andere moeilijke plaatsen
+ Rosa rugosa is zeer goed winterhard
+ De rozenbottel kan gebruikt worden voor het maken van rozenbottel thee of jam
- Snoeien is lastig door de doornen
