Steve Trevor from Wonder Woman / Tag: Blue Eyes
Thought I'd kill two birds with one stone.
I was tagged by the delightful Elizabeth Jackson and I didn't want to waste anytime responding.
But I just got my Wonder Woman Giftset and I wanted to take some comparison photos of the Playline and Collector/Signature Steve Trevors.
The faces of each sculpt are virtually the same, which pleases me because I think the likeness to Chris Pine is really good. The face-ups are very different. I think the Collector's paint looks more like Chris Pine, but it's not perfect. A lot of Mattel's likeness dolls suffer from 'doll face', which basically means the face paint is very basic and doesn't bring out the likeness in the sculpt. I think all the Wonder Woman/Gal Gadot dolls suffer from this.
The skin tones are different; Playline Steve is more slightly more tan.
I'm tempted to say Playline Steve's hair is more screen accurate, but the colour is all wrong. Collector Steve's hair is well rooted, but part of me wishes they could have recreated his haircut better.
In the end, I'm really glad that both exist. It would have been a shame if the only way to get a Chris Pine likeness was the $125 set. I suspect the doll designers at Mattel thought the same and that is why we got the Playline version too.
