THE "FLYING" SCOT!
Steam locomotive 46100 "Royal Scot heading off to Kidderminster ready to start the day's speed trials at a remarkable 50 miles an hour on the Severn Valley Railway. The former LMS engine is pictured here heading up the bank towards Bewdley Tunnel on the morning of Tuesday October 13th 2015. At Kidderminster, Royal Scot collected four carriages for the trials in preparation for mainline workings. The first speed test took place between Bewdley and Kidderminster after the loco's return. The SVR was given special permission to run the engine on that short stretch of the line at double the normal permitted speed of 25 mph. Got lucky with the footplate crew standing in just the right place (against the light).
